The Akita is a dignified, courageous and faithful dog of Japan, a majestic and imposing breed, which is well-known for its dignified, courage and fidelity.

Origin and History
Originally developed in northern Japan’s mountains, Akitas hunted bears and protected people. These brave dogs were also loyal companions to noble warriors like the Samurai. Later, they became symbols of good luck and prosperity. While World War II threatened the breed, well-directed programs brought about a strong recovery.
Physical Characteristics
Akitas are massive, well-built dogs that command attention. Their two-layered thick coat also protects them from the elements, while their sharp, honest eyes make them seem smart and resilient.
Temperament
They are not only physically imposing, but also of a kind and loving nature. Akitas develop deep bonds with their family members and protect them with their lives, and becoming very unlikely for anything to reach toward them. On the other hand, at times they may be a little shy around people they do not know, due to which they need to be brought up well during social times. The traits of independence and determination and the ongoing need to live with an experienced owner who is also a firm yet gentle leader make them Akitas.
Living with an Akita
Owning an Akita is definitely happy and challenging, but it requires you to be fully thoughtful. These dogs are very active and need proper exercise for both their body and mind and at the same time, training is necessary for them. Proper grooming ensures their fur is in good condition. They are still a little cautious of strangers. But, having them around kids is a great idea since they like kids. It is best to supervise them, though, because they are larger dogs and naturally protective.

The endearing tale of Hachiko, an Akita dog who was so loyal to his owner that he waited for him for a long time at a train station, is sometimes used to illustrate the loyalty of the breed. Because of Hachiko’s extraordinary devotion to his master, which won over everyone’s hearts, it came to represent unwavering faithfulness.
